Hey Fellow Paddy! :))

Thanks for the friend request. Not quite finished my first build yet. Waiting for postie from C.B. Gitty to arrive. I think I may have a problem though. Mine is 3 string fretless and followed all instructions from Gittyman's Manual but I think it was more suited to a fretted CBG. I think the string height may be too high for slide. Have not strung it up as yet but as instructed I will be using 5/16" diameter bolt bridge and 3/16" bolt nut. Worried if I use smaller nut to get closer to neck the strings may come in contact with the top of the neck wood when I add the retention screws. ????

One book I read suggested that you practice "down" strokes and then practice "up" strokes until you could get a comparable sound from each. Then try to not think about it when you perform but let instinct take over. (The book was "Blues Guitar for Dummies" which is actually a great book despite the insulting title.)

I seem to have gotten into the habit of using "up" strokes to emphasize melody notes, but that isn't planned--just came from that "instinct" the writer was talking about.

Apologies for hijacking your discussion on 3-string tabs, but I've been trying for 2 months to get some of the heavy hitters on here to sound off about tunings and why they like specific ones. You started a great discussion, and I'm trying to take advantage...

Meanwhile, don't get distracted by the esoteric ideas. CBG can be incredibly simple and satisfying. I taught one guy all he'll ever need to learn while standing in a parking lot with a cold wind blowing.

Tune it; strum it; sing your heart out! Know that there are all sorts of possibilities to try as your skill increases. The audios and videos on this website will introduce you to hundreds of options--all good and worthy of your time.

Welcome,

TN

Hello Scruggy,

I live in the US, but I have Irish ancestry. Glad to have you aboard! There's free plans on the website. That's a good place to start. The number one rule is: "there are no rules". If you look at the pictures you'll see a LOT of different ways to build a guitar. If you run into problems or have questions, then post your situation. You'll get LOTS of help! There are also tutorials and lessons in the video section. Do a search and you'll find stuff. Also tons of videos on YouTube.com.

Welcome to your new addiction!

Happy Building!
