hi Malcolm, i just seen you live in the Medway area. which town?
I recently joined the growing CBG family.I've completed 2 three string model builds 1 of witch i just sold. my problem now, is i need to learn how to play! ive managed to learn 1 rift and one song from watching others play on YouTube without ever playing a guitar before. what i really want though, is to sit down with someone, so i can ask quesions, get tips etc. unfortunatly all the instructors ive contacted either dont play slide, never heard of CBG's or only want to teach classical style. Do you know of anyone living in the Kent area, England (Sevenoaks) who plays/owns a CBG who may be able to help? Thanks a lot ...... Regards David
hi Malcolm, good to see you're attending 'sweeps '. hope it's a big hit .i was born and raised in Rochester and have family there , i'll send them along, i'd come but it's over 250 mls , anyway, welcome to the nation and hgmc ---have fun!!
mmm yeah a lot of time can go by watching stuff on on Youtube!! Re the playing I found I could get to play some simple Blues that I loved the sound of with MUCH less effort than on a"normal" guitar. With it tuned to an open tuning, like G,D,G and using a slide its very easy!!
well if you can pick it up and strum your finger over the strings, then you can play it : -)
If you want to get into playing check out thr "how to play bit on here" I watched Shanes lessons to get started...hadn't palyed anything for over 20yrs before coming omn here!
Hi Malcolm, thanks for the comments. I'm very new to the scene so have not yet signed up for the Boxfest but its on my radar. The mic is very simple to build, I've found that the little stubby Heineken cans are best as they are quite firm and therefore don't require any strengthening. Ordinary tins are easy too. I cut out the top and ground it down to a nice smooth opening with a dremmell then drilled a 10mm hole in the bottom for the jack. You need to use the ear piece from the phone NOT the bit you speak into. I knows its backwards but trust me. Solder to the jack to the phone speaker. Get a sponge / piece of foam and cut it circular to match the cans circumference. Then cut a slit into the foam and slip the ear piece in and PVA it closed. PVA the foam sides and slip into the can, position the foam, clean off any excess and leave upside down to dry. Plug it in and then get wailing, your done!
Hey Malcolm, actually I'm new to all this. I'm about to build my first CBG. I'm walking from New York to Los Angeles next year and I want to take my own little musical creation with me along the way :) I have been playing a hollowbody for a few months so not a complete beginner but still a huge amount to learn....Cheers for saying hi!
