Yeah i got a big limb off my black cherry tree sawed up at my local sawmill, not bad for 30 bucks. Now to dry for a year and then planed down to 7/4 - 1 1/2" thick, alot of neck wood and lap steel bodies. Whats not to like about cherry !!!
Thank you for your comments and question. Although, I do not teach this song on CD 1 (Open D tuning 6 string guitar and 3 string CBG / DAd tuning), I teach other Fred McDowell tunes. More importantly, I teach the method and techniques I use to figure out and arrange songs. I believe, armed with this info and getting the basic bass and melody line finger picking technique strong, you will have no problem understanding how to play this song. The 3 string CBG rendition of Wildwood Flower is created using the movable chord method taught on CD 6. Enjoy your practice, Keni Lee
Thank you PapaSimone for sharing your performance. Good stuff. I am glad to see you are enjoying the lessons, and they seem to be working out well. Keep up the good work. Enjoy your practice, Keni Lee
I am not sure? you will have to experiment, but you can follow the radio part and cut that or thoose wires so you dont have the bleed thru...but the rest is all just hacking by guessing!
hi,,,saw u asked about a sound link on etsy...cant be done....u can post the link,,,customer will have to copy it and then put it in a search bar...hope that helps...
hey bud . cheers. the amp was a 1945 battery box. probably had an old valve radio in there too, sadly no radio... but ive just aquired another with valve radio intact.... small valve amp time methinks ;)
Hey papa, thanks a lot. That neck is maple and honduran mahohany. the fretboard is bolivian mahogany. There are 11 long strips, plus 2 shorties for headstock width. I tend to be pretty picky about my alignment from nut to tuner, I like the strings to be as straight as possible. I had to taper the neck to accomodate the strat bridge assembly, giving me a nut width of 1-3/4, which is very comfortable to play

Hi papa simone
Hope those bits of info help,
Don't worry too much remember these are cigar box guitars as a rule I generally run my hand up and down the neck as if I were playing it that way you should feel if
Your neck is slick enough
Cheers
Ian
Basically, a three piece neck is pretty easy... what I did, I took a big chunk of mahogany and cut it in half. Are you familiar with the term bookmatching? I essentially glued the two mahogany slices bookmatched, but with a 1/4" piece of walnut in between them. You gotta have a lot of clamps! As you can see in the picture below, I used most clamps on the face of the mahogany, but a few clamps were used "side to side" to help keep everything as even as I could.
Then once it's all dried, you plane it down so all the edges are smooth and squared off, and you can treat it as essentially one piece of wood. Glue the fretboard to it, fit it to a box, and start shaping!
And if you liked that, I've got more pics of a CBG I call "The XV" which is a 3 piece neck, too. Plus another one in the works, too...
Feel free to ask any more questions, I'll do my best!
I should also say: 3 string CBG; D(AD) is the same as the 6 string guitar; DADf#(ad) in usage. Harmonizing the major scale on the two highest strings. See CD 1. The low D string can function as a monotonic bass. Of course, because the interval relationships (musical distances) are the same, GDg, CGc, etc works too and all the fingers are the same. Enjoy.
Thank you PapaSimone for your question. Certainly any 6 string song can be arranged for the limited strings found on a CBG and vise versa. Understanding string relationships (CD 3) makes this easier. Music can be simply moved into another tuning if you transfer between the correct strings. Additionally, you will learn a lot about tunings just by finding the notes of the 6 string arrangement and moving them onto a CBG. Of course, you have to be crafty sometimes to make the song work. Please check out the CBG instructional videos too. I have found that learning CBG has improved my 6 string understanding. CD 6 is directly applicable to CD1. The ADf# tuning of the 3 string is right here: D(ADf#)ad on the full 6 string tuning. GDg and Dgbd CBG tunings are the same as CD2, Open G tuning DGDgbd. Here: D(GDg)bd and here: DG(Dgbd) Enjoy your practice, Keni Lee
Currently, the Part 2 lessons for How to play 3 string CBG are posted here on my Cigar Box Nation page. I think you will find the approach clearly explained. Please feel free to write if any questions arise. Additionally any feedback that you would like to provide would be appreciated. Enjoy your practice.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Open tunings are really very useful, especially if you take the mystery out of them by looking into musical theory to guide and direct your fingerboard explorations. Enjoy your practice.
thanks for the comment ,my covers are 23 guage sheet ,and just a ballpein hammer or wood round mallet on a bag of shot or sand and a lot of time and cursin.
yeah was gonna do 'dark' papa. gotta admit im not into this claiming thing, like you i thought 'pick a song and record it' - didnt think it was an exclusive deal. we'll soon run out of songs so there will be duplicates. maybe the rules should have been more clear!
cheers

You don't have to have two volume and two tone controls but it really is nice. I have an Aria Pro II Les Paul copy with two of each and an Epiphone Les Paul Special II with only one of each. The Aria eats the Epiphone's lunch when it comes to tonal variations. I wouldn't part with either guitar, though as each has its own unique voice. You could always start with one volume and one tone and upgrade at some point if you wanted to. Enjoy your build and yell if I can help!
