thanks Jhono for the tips on getting the frets straight. i hadnt thought that far in advance . i envisioned just drawing a line and gluing them down. How hard can it be???

ok so any glaring mistakes? neck drawing is roughly 1 to 1 vertically and 30 to 1 horizontally.is bridge position too far in or not enough?

got this set of tuners coming so i will get a second go if i stuff this one up...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171889223445?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l264...

just need some decent glue and some split pins and i will be good to start next weekend. The missus is off on a scrapbook retreat then off to Sydney to look after her godson for a week. so i can be messy and get away with it...ha ha .

well a les paul is 629mm scale length, so i figured 600 wasnt bad idea and i intend to tune down to open D anyway. it might be too much tension on open G as you said. already got a strat style electric guitar and a Fender DG-7 acoustic guiter so i wanted something different. Plus most of the Irish stuff i know is in D .

" first build part 2"  ... There's a Rambo  joke  in there somewhere    ;-)

ps  . when  using open  face  tuners  ,, make sure you  install  them   gears  toward the body  on the proper  sides  .  otherwise  you  run the  risk of skipping and stripping  as the shaft  pulls away  from the  gear   when  put in  backwards  .   (not  an issue  with most newer style  enclosed tuners    )

Pretty short scale length. You would have to tune up a standard pack of strings no matter which strings you used to take up the slack. Thst can work out ok. I would have opted for a 25" scale first build till you got a a few builds under ya belt. But hey its cbg so the skys the limit. A first build is bound to be basic so i feel qualified to comment as I still do basic builds. As I mentioned before. Make and fret ya fretboard. Dont touch the box yet. Dont do anything to the wood you gonna use as neck. Lay neck wood beside box so that 50mm extends beyond.box end.Lay fretboard on your neck wood timber. Slide it up or down so that you get ya 600mm nut to about 40mm from rear of box. Mark that position of fretboard on your neck. You should have neck. Now you can cut slots in.box for neck thru. Do your neck head stock. Dont have your first tuner hole position any closer than around 40mm to nut. 50 is a goood distance for first holes. Remember to leave about 10mm between nut line and any step down you make in Headstock if you usin a groove for a bolt nut.
Hope any of these tips are useful to avoid some pit falls on a first build.

Cheers jonno
