Cigar Box Season's Greetings - Shane's Christmas Newsletter

The Shane Speal newsletter:  A cool link to the very first set of cigar box guitar plans ever published + a big end-of-year sale a the Shane store.

Uncle Enos and the Christmas Cigar Box Banjo

The very first set of plans for a cigar box instrument were published in the late 1800's by Daniel Carter Beard, founder of the Boy Scouts.  In the story, Beard tells of a Christmas Eve gathering with many fun specifics of the period (such as hiding presents in the Christmas pudding) and the surprising sound of a raspy old banjo built by a former slave, lovingly called Uncle Enos.  The story ends with a detailed description of Uncle Enos' new instrument.

Several years ago, a few of us in the early Cigar Box Guitar Revolution tracked these plans down and were as excited as a kid on Christmas when we first laid eyes on them.  Since then, they've been uploaded and stored in the free archive of Google Books.  Here is your direct link to see them yourself.  CHRISTMAS EVE WITH UNCLE ENOS.

Thank you to everyone who made this an incredible year to remember.  Next year will have more concerts, more instruments and hopefully TWO new albums.

In the meantime, I hope you have an awesome holiday season.  I'm heading back into the woodshop to finish some gifts for my family.  I've put the remaining stock of 2013 instruments and shirts on sale at www.cigarboxguitar.com.  I can't wait to make more!

Stay primal...and Merry Christmas,
Shane Speal
