John I have a set of lyrics of about 60 songs
On word documents if ya need em sent over
As did a lot of prep on my set,but your welcome to em

Wow, Bug.  That's good.  I'm going to print it off and try to use it.   A lot of good tips there,  

 

I've been working for maybe six months on getting song repertoires on GDG CBG, open G six string (same songs around 25 songs) , standard six string (8-12 songs),  uke (15 or 20 songs).   It just hit me recently that I'd be better off with just a few songs I can do great than a bunch I can do fairly well. 

 

A good tip I have heard lately is, "Sing to the guitar.'   I forget whom I heard say that, but I know I do better if I follow that advice.

 

And on a good story song -generally my favorites- getting the story told and feeling it is better and more important than showing off your playing.   Doing a song simply putting the story first often works well.

"I made up a lot of the songs I sing. It's like you hear a record or something or other. Well, you pick out some words out of that record that you like. You sing that and add something else onto it. It's just like if you're going to pray, and mean it, things will be in your mind. As fast as you get one word out, something else will come in there. Songs should tell the truth... When I play-- if you pay attention, what I sing the guitar sings, too. And what the guitar say, I say."
