As a novice getting the hang of playing any instrument, especially a CBG is very confusing. Playing the instrument in a Blues style is even more complicated if you do not understand its development. I have yet to find a good primer on blues. I am not an expert but the following appears to be valid from all I have read:
The major "D" for blues has a "D" for the I chord, and "F" for the iii, a G for the IV, an "A" for the V, and a…

There is a reason we have children. In today's world it is called technology.
I have been building CBGs about a year now and finally feel good enough about my builds to think of selling them. Also health problems make my going back to work after being on medical leave for six months questionable. Even if I can go back the medical restrictions may be such I may need transferring to a whole new job category and need to learn a new set of job skills. So, I need a "PLAN…

December 5, 2012 I crossed the yellow line and sideswiped a service truck. Problem is I did not realize I had done it. Some things in life really shake you up. I did realize someone had hit my drver's side mirror and shattered it. Looking in the inside mirror I did not see anyone stop, slow or any other indication anyone was concerned, so figuring it was a hit and run went home. Later I went out and saw paint on the driver's side fender. So I called the police to report an accident and was…

I became interested in CBG because learning to play guitar was on my bucket list. Anyone here in the same boat?
I am learning how to build much quicker than how to play. Anyone in that boat alos?
OK, so on the playing side, I have actually made some progress I want to share. Well, not share, more like talk through - a discussion group - theropy?
First I did the thumb tacks on the neck at the third, fifth, seventh, and twelfth fret positions. Later, after a lot of…

I recently was with a group with the State of TN starting a new initiative. After a week long series of training was over we were to make an Action Plan for our District.
Right off the bat someone in my group shouted "I'm really interested in [such and such]. I thought "really, that is a project, not a process; it has nothing to do with an Action Plan". A plan was to help state agencies work together to prepare clients to be received by non-profit orginizations so they could finalize…

Ok, we can become obligated to much to quickly.
That friend I way underpriced that build for is waiting his guitar. He told me today he knew he was getting a real bargan. He ain't no fool. So tonight I started cutting sound holes and the drill bit snagged, tore out a hole. Have to find all the little pieces and glue then back in, and tomorrow when all is dry cut it out by hand. However, I soldered in the Double Piezo pickups, one under the bass strings and one under the high string,…

DO DO tha DO, Do DO tha DO, tha tha. Welcome to the Twilight Zone, do not attempt to adjust your tone knob or volume, we are in total control.
I cannot play anything on any guitar, except thanks to Night Owl can now muddle my way through "Amazing Grace" on a 3-string in GDG tuning. Oh and can do the first opening licks of "Bad to the Bone" - thanks! That's a lot more than I could do two months ago!
I have now officially built three guitars - amazing. Who'd a thunk? I am totally…

As I read on CBN I am struck by the positive upbeat, success oriented nature of what everyone posts.
Life ain't like that chum.
Yesterday for example. Had been by Lowes to pick up the parts I had heard listed in Uncle Gus' 1 hour build videos. Had the neck preped to begin. Took each bolt and nut out of the plastic shopping bag, not nairy a one was a match to what Uncle Gus had said buy. I'd heard wrong in my excitement tp build that 1 hr build. or just not paid enough…

NASHVILLE builders and players ATTENTION!
We can all get together and join in as an association of Nashville area CBG. Artist to do charity work including building CBGs for worthy causes. We could put on concerts, donate time to teach the art to children and each other, do all kind of neat things. Heck we could even have regular meetings with tea and crumpets.
I have tried to look all of you up and send all of you a friend request. My motive was mainly selfish. I am a total…

I listen to CBG on YouTube and CBN at work. It appears others Eaves Drop on my music. A co-worker comes into my office to "Chill" occassionally and he really likes the music. I like the old delta blues and just CBG blues in general. He likes the music where the notes are crisp and sharp.
I'd mentioned I had built two CBGs. He asked me one day if I build "those guitars". I replied "Yes".
He asked what did I get out of them. I said $75.00 unfretted and $100.00 fretted. Of course…

Every day I check the mail box. Looking for one order from Gitty and one from a company in Thailand. The company inThailand sells really cheap capacitors, pots, boards, etc. However, it takes ten days or more to arrive. More usuallly. Gitty takes far less, it just seems like ten days since I am anxious. I am awaiting two sets of tuners. two sets of strings and twenty five grommits for strings.
Read an article today about tools needed to do a professional job of building CBGs. It was…

My shop is a one car garague. That car better be small! Today, after two months of neglect, I decided to clean my shop.
Actually, I decided to make room. I decided to box up any tool or item I did not need and store it for my kids inheritance. I literally have about fifty screw drivers flat head and phillips, and some wierd specialized shape. They are long, short, stubb, thin, thick, and tiny. I have parts of two separate jewelers screwdriver sets. All I need is one each, one short,…

I started out building a CBG and used cannabilized parts such as fret board and tuners.
However, I do not know how to play guitar or read tabs. So, I had a 3-string but could not play it.
Try finding good free instrucctions on playing 3-string. And, when I did some were in EBE and some in GDG. Finally figured out that pretty much there is no difference when it comes to hitting the right fret line.
But, my guitar was acustic. Has great sound, just that all instructional…
