After last year's success selling cigar box guitars at Glastonbury, we decided to have another shot at it. My sales manager (and daughter) Anne completed the application in October of last year...and early in March we heard that we'd been offered…
After cutting the outside, this is what the body looks like (upside down):
The neck is made of quarter sawn maple with red arariba glued in the middle. I decided on 'neck almost through' building technique, and have about a 2 degree back angle on the neck. While I have not started this yet, I plan on using wenge for the fretboard, tailpiece, and…

After my drums and ukulele, I decided to try for a more CBG-esque instrument. (Unfortunately, no cigar boxes were harmed in the making of this instrument).
This guitar uses CBG design principles, such as through neck, floating bridge, 4 strings, no truss rod, etc. However instead of a cigar box (which I don't have ready access to), I decided to make my own box. Since I am a sucker for punishment, I decided to make it in the traditional figure 8 shape... but without using any wood…

Not a CBG, but a homemade instrument nonetheless, so I figure it (kinda) fits here.
Jungle / cocktail 2 piece drum set. The floor tom doubles as a bass drum, with the foot pedal modified to swing upwards instead of forward.…

Hi all,
My work with stringed instruments began a few months ago with a ukulele build. Not a cigar box, but a custom box nonetheless.
Maple neck and soundboard, walnut sides and back, red arariba bridge and fretboard, deer antler nut and saddle.
I did this one before I was familiar with CBG style building, so I made quite a few mistakes, but even…

So, there are about 7 guitarist that I have met 5 of which i work with. I have shown these people my builds. A couple of them remarked "oh, cool i seen these on you tube." or something to that affect which is cool i let them look at it and play it. (sense i can't play very well at all it is nice to see them played.) However a surprising amount of them seemed confused and joke "why does it only have three strings." like there is something wrong with it. I don't know why but it makes me so…

A friend of mine recently bought a dogbowl resonator cbg on Etsy. To be honest, it didn't have much "resonator" to it, but was built well and played in tune. A friend of his saw it and wanted a resonator cbg of his own. Long story short, I got the commission.
I know lots of you have made dogbowl, paint can lid, etc resonators, but for the life of me, I couldn't…

I build and repair guitars in Western Canada. For many years I built traditional Acoustic And Electrics one at a time. In the last number of years I am making and playing almost exclusively 3 and 4 string CBG's and homemade guitars. I generally have several guitars for sale.
For those that are interested I thought I would post some of my builds, some of my techniques, and some works in progress. I work in a one man shop, that was originally a 1950's barn, and was in bad disrepair when…

Dan Sleep attended the 2016 fest and surprised everyone, wasn't sure he would come. He must've had a good time because he said he would be back.
Unfortunately Dan got some bad news and life turned on him and he wasn't well enough to attend this year. Talked with him via email and he asked if he sent a photo would I stick it in a corner then he would feel like he was there. I said that I would make it happen. Checked with others to see if my idea to make a life size image of Dan would…
