Howdy folks,I am a complete newbie to 3-string CBG.If I need to be posting these BASIC questions elsewhere....please direct me to there. Why do I see some CBG with frets and some without? What are the…Continue
"Hey, Amigo! I have the same question. From what I understand, now that I have completed my first build, is that you want to mark the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th frets. Repeat for the 2nd octave, if desired. I understand about using online fret…"
This is,pretty long. I hope it helps.
The best pickup is the one that does the thins you asked it to do.
All piezo pickups are super high impedance pickups. Some need a preamp for gain and others do not.
Rod piezos are the ones you see…"
"Kiera, I like mag pups best. Especially thin ones that can be surface mounted without a big hole in the soundboard. Vintage Teiscos fill the bill. Also Elmar "Flat pups are great. Piezos are noisy. Every touch or bump on the box is amped. I get…"
Howdy folks - a quick couple of questions that no doubt have been asked before:WHAT TYPES OF PICKUPS ARE COMMONLY USED IN CBGs (from worst to best is sound)?Piezo DisksPiezo Rods??WHAT ARE THE COMPARABLE COSTS OF EACH TYPE?WHERE ARE SOME DIFFERENT PLACES TO BUY THEM?Thx,kietaSee More
"Howdy Mike - Here is a link for you. This fellow, Mordacai, has a really neat FREE video on 'playing the CBG' and his method for learning is entirely different from all the other 'how to' videos.
He geared his video for the…"
"I forgot to mention, that amplifier at www.Gittyman.com is not your usual type of CBG amplifier. On that amp, the CB lid is left open ans serves as a 'back-brace' so the amp can me tilted. That is what is so unique about your…"
"Really cool looking box you got there, T-Gripped.
Personally, I would not use that CB to make a CBG....it is too special looking.
Instead, I would make an amplifier out of it like Mordacai has on the banner on his web site www.Gittyman.com
"Yep, I got that book also by Sutton and also found the articles interesting. And yes, a person can follow the directions to make a CBG, but not nearly anywhere as detailed as gittyman's.
And gittyman's book is half the price....but…"
"Howdy Col. Bruce Roberts and welcome!
I'm down in Tucson and you are correct, not many active CBG makers around....BUT WE ARE!!!!
If you have not yet done so, get the $14 book on making CBGs at www.Gittyman.com
And I believe he just put…"
"With regards to 'loose frets' and how to get them to seat tight....(and how to glue them if all else fails)....most folks have been successful by following the techniques in Mordacai's CBG making instruction book at…"
"Howdy Daniel - Save yourself a boat-load of 'time' and 'heartache'....go to www.GittyMan.com and get his CBG Manual. Very inexpensive and has everything all in one place. If after getting his book, you feel it isn't…"
I have built CBG's and plan on making my first couple of CBUkes this winter.
These questions might have already been asked, but since I am just now starting to follow this group, I thought I'd ask anyway.
Keith,There is a hole in the end of the box under this tailpiece. The stripped end of a wire is wrapped around one of the fixing screws, taken through the hole and the other end soldered to the jack socket ground terminal
Keith, I am not working on this project yet. I have been collecting cigar boxes and I have a nice supply of exotic woods. I ordered a copy of Cigar Box Guitars and it has not arrived yet. I have been doing quite a bit of reading and doing some thinking on the project. I want to build one for myself and then build for the servicemen. Thanks. Larry
Ken, I live in Sierra Vista and am just getting started in CBG's. I do not own one, but am going to start building one or more. If you are in S.V. give me a call at 317-650-6315 (Indiana Cell phone). Thanks. Larry
