Hi Tom,
ive been beating on bass guitars since 1970. Due to the string tension and scale length, making a cigar box bass guitar would be difficult. You would need a much larger resonant body and eithe a truss rod to counter the string tension or fashion a neck with something in it to make it stiff, like steel. This is probably why I’ve only seen one or two string cigar box basses. Cigar boxes are too small for the body and would look ridiculous on a 34 inch neck. I was thinking of making a baritone cigar box guitar with a 30 inch scale length. Schecter makes a cool six string barratone guitar so I know I could get strings. I am starting to get into making my own boxes (with box joints) as most cigar boxes are a little small, even for a cigar box guitar.
