"The glowforge is a good product, but if you're a little tech/mechanical saavy, the K40 laser is a cheaper alternative at about $500.
If you get a K40, ditch the software, and get K40 Whisperer... it's awesome.

"I've used a hot wire for years to cut foam for model airplanes. The first thing you notice is his use of a 12V battery charger. This doesn't eliminate the burn risk, but brings the voltage to a safe level.

Thank you for the info. I understand the time money and effort the everyone puts into this amazing craft and community. I would love a fretted 3string if ever possible. I have agoraphobia and come spring I'm in the woods sun up to Sun down into fall and wish I had a 3string cbg to play on, if I could I would have it built in a heartbeat but having no money it's very hard, on the tool side i have a screwdriver but that's about it.
