"Insulating the piezo a bit inside the box with foam does help with feedback. Also, using a pre-amp does let you shape the sound more precisely in order to get the most out of it."

"I thought I had recognized the cow boy. No Daltons? ;-) Then again, that probably would have broken the box :-D"

François replied to Paul Craig's discussion What's on your workbench?
"The springs in the strat are just there to get the tremolo bridge to return to it's zero position. Other than that their effect on the tone is negligible. Now when it comes to putting springs inside a CBG, things are different since it has a…"

"Yeah, I'm kinda curious about that too as I have been wanting to build a spring reverb for quite some time."

Star Amp

"It actually sounds really clean when compared to the LM386 opamp. I first tried using it without a pre-amp but the levels were definitely too low. Now with the pre-amp, I run into the problem of having a speaker that's too weak. But they would…"

François replied to Fantacone Box Works's discussion Break angle for bridge
"The handle comes from the fact that the person for whom this is getting built wants to use an old oak handle as the bridge. Personally, I would just try and get it on there in some way to keep him happy. But if it was for me, the project…"

François replied to Fantacone Box Works's discussion Break angle for bridge
"Just had a weird idea. Why not use a violin like bridge and use the handle as a string guide to keep the strings in a lower position between the end piece and the bridge? The thin bridge wouldn't obscure the label too much and the strings would…"

François replied to Bryan Pieper's discussion Piezo active preamp question
"So if I'm getting things right, we're talking about a passive EQ to adjust the tone and a mixing stage. The hard thing will be figuring out the value of the caps to use."
