Building small instruments in my small basement.

Queue:
FRONT BURNER
*instruments for folks serving overseas

*setting up a custom octave violin - no more cigar boxes for a while!

 

BACK BURNER
* upright 4-string washtub bass
* a pentatonic dulcimer which means split frets
* jumbo bass marimbula

* klez-cimer (klezmer scale -  more split frets!)

"thinking of a two string, tuned 1? octave apart...play like a one string, can use bow to give it a dual string sound more in keeping with regular fiddle.  Sound reasonable?"

"Glenn, it seems to me, that older/vintage cans have louder sound. I think it has something to do with either the thickness or the hardness of the steel? The old half pound coffee cans are pretty loud, although  a little bulky? Anything 32 oz.…"

Long time since I've talked with you.  hope that all is well.  As I close in on retirement (finally, I'm 65 this month), I'm building and playing more.  Maybe I'll have enough time to get to the Chicago fest.  Are you coming down to St. Louis fest this June?  It would be great to see you.

hello Diane and thank you. i wish i could help you but those are the only pics i've got left (beside the other ones in my page). i never held a real cello in my hands so it is propably very far from the right sizes and scales altought it sounds quite good to me..
