Hi David, I'm a bit overwhelmed by all ther information on this website, but hope to get used to it eventually . I'm seriously addicted to my cigar box guitar already. I 've always made things from junk and as well as my CBG , I made a tenor banjo from a 12 inch plastic fishing float and a didley bow from driftwood with a beer can resonator. I'll put some photos of them on my page some time. also building a dual foot stomp box with some interesting bits and another CBG for my  wife's brother . What you busy with at your side of the atlantic?

David, you should be able to find lots of opinions in the forum (under the community link at the top of the page), or ask your question there and get a broader response. Personally, I tend to tap on boxes and listen for resonance before acquiring them: I have had good luck with both all-wood and paper-covered boxes, depending on the kind of instrument.
