Howdy Ya'll...I thought to make a 4 string, fretted CBG for my first build.  I thought if I could build this one then any 3 string I did subsequently would be a cinch.  Well, I think I bit off more…Continue

"Pardon me chuckling a bit, but you fretted an instrument, played some cool blues licks on it - but used a slide and not the newly tied on frets (unless I missed something) in the demo. Really neat idea regardless. I bought some 20 gauge jewelry wire…"

Brian Revels replied to Taffy Evans's discussion I need a banjo quick......so I built one.
"It looks great. I have a "farm fresh" banjo some friends gave me. The tuner knobs are almost completely dry-rotted. The neck has a slight twist in it, but still sounds and plays decent (though I am not a banjo…"

Supposedly there are "no rules", but in order to build one that sounds good... there are definite rules to follow. It's "a stick in a box" is what is said by most, but those who tout it as such (many of them) build beautiful instruments that are on-par with many commercially build instruments. Cigar Box Guitars can complicated for many of these reasons, but simple if you don't overthink them.

Hi Brian... Just thinking about your forum post about fretting. Just to satisfy my curosity, can you tell me what height you have the strings above the 1st and 12th fret? Also, can you tell me what gauge of strings you are using? I really think there's probably nothing wrong with your fret job.

Hi Brian,

The photo of my My Headless Stick Dulcimer #1 was 1 of 9 taken of the instrument and uploaded to CBN. They are all grouped together in a photo album at this link. The instrument also sounds very nice.
