"My experience with just spraying over loose labeling is that it will still be loose when you're done.
I do use spray lacquer on my gits, but first I take the time to very carefully glue down every last bit of loose labeling. I use Elmer's…"
"I sit and stare at my dirty, vintage boxes before I do anything to them, then I approach them with the least invasive technique that I think might work and go from there until I'm happy.
I have a couple of vintage solid wood Muriel Babies boxes…"
"Wow, very nice!
Welcome to CBN!
A very ambitious build. You mentioned that it is your "latest" build. The quality of your work makes me wonder how many others you have under your belt.
I'd like to try a 6 string someday, but…"
"I've only built 3 string CBGs so far myself, but the next one is to be a 4 string with a 23" scale tuned G2, D3, A3, E4, (Irish Tenor tuning) and I plan to use a flat fretboard.
I play an Ibanez AVT1 Tenor Guitar (23" scale) that has…"
I'm somewhat of a CBG newbie myself, so consider that fact in my reply.
I could see that the lack of bracing that a formal guitar would have underneath it's top may be a factor. I could imagine some deformation occurring over…"
Thank you for leaving a kind comment and warm welcome for me. From a picture you've posted, I see you've got several beautiful cigar boxes to start your building. Seems you've got plenty of opportunities to learn, and…"
Thank you for the friend request. Regarding your question they are geared closed tuners. I buy them from eBay and from which seller has the cheapest price at the time. Typically this means a seller from China and a…"
"I forgot about the need to sand the inlays. That would be a problem with a stained fretboard. Unless you changed the fretboard material to a naturally darker wood.
Or very carefully re-stain after sanding, but that really never turns out well, does…"
"I like the thought of the oak dowel position markers. I used oak dowel to make a repair in a walnut gun stock recently. My thought was that if I used walnut, it would look like a repair, but if I used oak, it would be a highlight. It worked out well…"

As soon as I first thought about making CBGs, I immediately started to think about all the crazy recycled components I could use to enhance the quality or singularity of the sound produced from a CBG, or 2 of them, or 6, or 12, or..., well, you get the idea.
Thank you for leaving a kind comment and warm welcome for me. From a picture you've posted, I see you've got several beautiful cigar boxes to start your building. Seems you've got plenty of opportunities to learn, and build upon, cigar box guitar-building skills. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Thank you for the friend request. Regarding your question they are geared closed tuners. I buy them from eBay and from which seller has the cheapest price at the time. Typically this means a seller from China and a delivery time that varies between 2 to 6 weeks. I have never had a problem and if I did PayPal would refund the price. If you prefer a USA seller CB Gitty had an excellent reputation and a large choice with quick delivery.
