"The amp is plenty enough power for a guitar. Guitar's with passive electronics work on milliamps, so a 9volt aamp is plenty of power.  Could be that the wires for the guitar hook up are reversed, something could be defective in that part…"

I think ukes are a great first instrument to build and so much fun to play.
