War time tailpiece ghost

1945 Harmony flat tops and archtops had wooden tailpieces. When i took off the tailpiece it revealed this star design. I have a Harmony book that shows this motif of red white and blue stars in a circle and a big red white and blue Uncle Sam's hat. All that remains of the design is under the tailpiece.

  • This one got some tone. It rings for a long time and chimes very nice.
  • I just know that Harmony used a lot of birch.  And it does look like it too.   Not a great tone wood, but not bad and kind of that distinctive Harmony sound.

  • Uncle John, maybe she is birch. It looks like Mahogany also in parts of the woodgrain. Maybe someone can tell us for sure.

  • Dave I have a pre war Harmony archtop and yeah the tailpiece is wood dyed black to look the ebony.
