My 5th build. The neck I used, & the neck from the last CBU I built, came from an Ebay purchase I made a couple months ago. Both included a pre-inserted dowel in the heel, ready to slap a cigar box on. 2 for $20 bucks. Sounded like a hell of a deal to me. The last one I made played great & sounded even better. Very low action with a banjoey twang to it. This one...not so much. The wooden nut has very thin grooves for the strings. The thick C string doesn't fit well & buzzes like a SOB, rendering it pretty much unplayable. Plus it's an old neck, so I'm a little weary of making any fixes to it. But I think it looks cool! It definitely has that depression era feel to it. The headstock reads "Buckeye Brand". I googled the company, but couldn't find any info. If anyone knows the origins of this neck, please share. Sorry for the long winded description :)

Hi Unc,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, if anything she'll just be a conversation piece. Regarding the C string, no I haven't tried to widen the slot. The nut is wooden, which I don't have any experience working with. So far I've only set up & filed plastic & bone. I'm afraid if I try to file it wider, I could snap a piece off of it. Who knows, maybe one day I'll muster up the courage to take it on. Either way thanks for the kind words.
Well, it does look cool. Glad the other one is a player for you. Almost all of us make some that are wall hangers. I set mine aside and sometimes when I come back to them, can fix them. Some if I can not fix, I part out, This one looks too good to part out. Good, honest description.
I can not see the problem. Did you widen the slots for the C string?
