  • Me too Jim. Sorry for the Ukulelle misspelling Gary. That's Ukes not uses. I still need the pickup to get her playing.
  • Cool! Can't wait to see and hear Vinnie looping around with it.

  • Hey Gary, the top on this one will be wood. Either spruce or cedar. It will be electric with an Elmar flatpup. It's for Downtown Vinnie. He's into the electrics. I've learned not tacking a head on these Mahogany bowls. I cracked one like it in the tacking. I like the birch bowls for tacking. I like calf or goat skin for heads. I'm not as fond of the plastic tone. I like the old mountain banjo sound of real skin. I love uses too. I started my building with uses. Now I've got some fine uses. Komica, And Gibson.
  • I have never tried binding, but I am tempted.  I have some very thin Walnut that I have been wondering what to do with.  I am wondering how you will be doing the head.  Skin or plastic?  I like the heat shrunk recycled type 3 plastic.  Or will you use the wood end of the bowl?  Now I know what a combover is-other than Trump.  What kind of strings are you planning?  I have been building lots of ukes.

  • Thanks Gary. Yes the binding goes all the way. I thought of it to make the neck a little wider. My Oak core is just 1 1/2 inches square. I usually start with a 2x2 stick. I found this beautiful quarter sawn stick at Woodruff Lumber. The binding is a Black Walnut guitar side split in two. It's working out so far. I've got two coats of varnish on it now. Looks nice...
  • Looking forward to future progress.  The binding is interesting.  I guess it goes all the way down the neck.  Seems like a good idea.
