Two part Harmony

I got these two guitars at my favorite pawn shop. The six string plays well. I really like the wide fretboard. I need to do some work on the tenor to lower the action and would like to replace the tuners.

  • I like em' both! The sixer is just plain COOL!

  • Just of late has it dawned on me the MANY tunings available in this stringed instrument world.

  •   Thanks, John.  I've got the tenor strung ,DGBE and tuned down to,CEGC (open C).   Some other possible tunings.  DF#AD, DAF#D  (Both open D) and EG#BE , EBG#E (Both open E) and DBGD (open G)      The second examples of these chords give you a B string that is not under as much tension as the other strings , but still playable and a different voicing.   The tenor has 1 to1 ratio friction peg tuners .....so it's a pain to tune !   At some time I will probably replace the tuners  with geared banjo style tuners .

  • Good story.   Man, that tenor catches my eye.  You can tune it Chicago style, DGBE, like the small four on a six and you are off and playing.   You can tune it like an octave mandolin, you could string it for GDGB.   Back to the DGBE - my fave- you can also go DGBD and have an open G.

  •  Thanks for the comments , everyone.    I got the six string one week and went in the next week and there was the tenor .   The story on the six string is I am the second owner and this guitar was not really played.     I believe this story because I saw the name , Gary Manley , on the pawn ticket and it matches the name carved into almost one foot of the back of the guitar , next to the label that says "Gary Manley".  Ahhh....the regrets of Gary Manley's youth.       I call this guitar my Harmony Manley .

  • That archtop is nice, I've got a Silvertone version, they boom!
  • sweet  score !

  • WOW!   Both beauties.  I love tenors and you don't see  them that nice very often.
