Tommy. A Special Guitar. The timber for this guitar [back and sides] was given to me by a long-time friend and fellow woodworkerHe had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was tidying up his affairs. He said that he had saved a large board of African Walnut or Tiger Wood for a special job but said I could have it as he will not be able to start that job now.I built the guitar in memory of Tom and presented it to his wife at the first anniversary of his passing. The inlays depict traits attributed to Tom. The soundhole rosette depicts cloudsStarting at the top of the guitar is a galleon, He built a large model of one on his kitchen table in a one room flat. Cup and saucer, we never went far without having to stop for a cup of tea.Dates, marking the 12th fretCyclist, on the heal, he was a very keen cyclist, road touring and all that.Chisel and shaving, on the end graft. He was a great wood worker who did not ever settle for less than perfection.A great mate. R I PTaff PS…He could not even play guitar. His wife is a Motivational Speaker, among many other health endeavours, and she tells me she loves it when visitors play the guitar for her.
