Ya know, I haven't even seen the actual screens they use, the stuff I have is just some left over perforated steel. I have some rattan style perf steel as well, but thought the one I used looked most like what I imagine they use. I'll have to look into that though. Did you use a lot of tape when binding the insides of your sound holes, and what do you use for glue?
Yeah. Your Gothic Cross design should come out real nice. I wanted to try something similar with a "My Father" Cigar box I had but decided not to. I wonder where one could get ahold of the actual screens they use in a confessional?
That thing turned out really nice Robert, the mahogany with the binding is a perfect match. And the extra effort to bind the soundholes is well worth it, it looks incredible. I should try to do the binding on the inside of my gothic cross sound hole design.
Thanks... That was my first binding job, so there are a few tiny gaps, but overall... I think not bad. The f-holes were a total pain, but came out nice. I jut tuned up the intonation on the bridge and realized I placed it just a tad too close to the neck... It will tune okay, but the saddles need to drop nearly all the way toward the tailpiece... :( Would rather they sit further forward but ah well, lessons learned. I have a buyer already so I'm happy.
