I saw hinges like this on some of David Lloyd's instruments. Thought that they might make tailpieces. Each hinge makes two tailpieces, with very little modification. The hole spacing is 11mm (or 0.440"). The holes are drilled with a centre drill, which means that the hole and the chamfer are made in one operation.The one on the left has been shaped and polished a bit. The one on the right is yet to be filed to shape and is screwed onto a piece of wood to make drilling easier.

Thanks for the comments. They are easy to do. I forgot to mention that you can easily remove the lacquer by soaking in vinegar for fifteen to thirty minutes (OK if you like the smell of vinegar). After that a brass bristled suede brush dislodges it easily.
