Jerry, I've been using this method for a while.

Far superior sound to my ears compared to a piezo disc and best of all - no soldering. I position the rod inside the box lid under the bridge area, sandwiched beneath by the stick through.

looks like a tidy harness. I have a few rods I have not used. I'll give it a try.
