  • Thanks, Ted ... this is a full-scale bass, with 21 frets. No, I didn't use a truss rod, but the neck is perfectly straight without it. The trick is to use slightly bowed wood blanks, turning the curve side down so that the string tension pulls against it and pulls the neck up straight. I do this with all my builds, and it works great. Plus, with this neck, I used a red oak laminate. Laminate necks are so strong, they rarely need correcting. I had that tip from a luthier!
