Minstrel Banjo

BANJO BUILD - OFFMinstrel 5-String BanjoThis is a build based on the Minstrel banjos of the 1800’s. The pot is from a 1930’s Bacon mandolin banjo, the skin head I fitted 30 years ago. The neck is three piece made from an antique bed leg of Silky Oak and I added Tasmanian Oak. The tailpiece and bridge are of Ebony. Of course, it is strung with Nylgut strings and has that great plunky traditional sound. It is very loud. The pot is smaller than the traditional minstrel banjo size, but it was all I had. I love the feel and sound, a real “kick back and pick” banjo.Taff
