  • Thank you all. The tines are made from an old grass rake. I cut the spring steel into pieces and then mounted them between an aluminum T track from a woodworking store, and an aluminum rod. then bolted it all to the cigar box. I've tuned it to Gmaj. It's a 14 note alto. It sounds really great. Especially with distrotion and effects... I've been having a lot of fun with it. The Support under the top, has really made it a greatly reliable instrument. Without, there was just too much feedback. I've got a pretty nice Bass amp/PA system I play things through, and I can now hold the kalimba right in front of the speakers and not worry about over loading the piezo.
