Inlays Ready To Go!

I cut the paua abalone teardrop inlay from a blank today ready to fit to cbg build #2. I got lucky with this batch as the dots match up really nicely for colour and pattern. I'm using the same card template I made for the gold mother of pearl teardrop inlay I did on cbg build #1 (blank shown on left for comparison) so they will match as I'm building them as a pair. The paua abalone pieces should polish up really well once they're 'in the wood'.

  • Cheers Uncle John, and you've seen the gold mop teardrop already, on the head stock of my first cbg build. There's a decent picture of it here, if you scroll down the page a bit.....https://cigarboxnation.com/photo/cbg-build-2-progress-1?context=user

I'm hoping to rout the head stock for cbg #2 and the paua abalone one tomorrow, all being well....might get the dots in too.
  • Nice, Brian, I look forward to seeing these on instruments.
  • Thanks Dave, but the real credit should go to those industrious little gastropods that produce this beautiful shell.....so pretty, can't wait to see it on the guitar. I chose the two different shells to compliment the boxes......the gold mop flashes reddish pinks in with the yellows and golds and when the light catches it it looks as if it's got an LED inside it and gives the most beautiful 3D effect, almost holographic...it's amazing material. The dust is very very nasty though......I always wear a proper mask when I work with it, and use a jewellers piercing saw (#3 blade) then refine the shape and square the edges with a small flat diamond coated jewellers file, all outdoors.

  • Wow Brian beautiful work and Abalone.
