Indy '62 Tin Box LPG Reso

“Indy ‘62” – Tin Box License Plate Guitar (Lo-Tone Resonator). The body is what I believe to be is a 1940-50’s “Dainty Dinah” toffee tin which I scuffed over with an abrasive foam pad to bring out the relief scroll-type design. The license plate is 1962 vintage (same as me). Both items are naturally aged and a little rusty. Neck is poplar (stained and “aged”). Bridge/saddle is an old window screw lock beside two small calibre brass shell volume/tuner knobs. The pickup is a 7.6k Warman vintage S-coil. Tuning is Low D – Low A – Med D. Need to make sure I don’t get tetanus when playing.

  • Thank you Andries.  Much appreciated.  There is some resonation.  It is a lower, deep tone due to the Low D tuning.  I wasn't sure how it was going to sound, but I knew how I wanted to build it and the look I wanted.  I may try and record a sample on it shortly.

  • That is a great looking setup "Ambrose ", does it give you that rezzo feel in the sound that you was looking for? waiting on your audio sample ! great stuff !!

  • Cheers Buggsy,  Glad you like it.  Yes, I believe Dainty Toffee kept the dentistry business busy.  Toffee tins could be a good theme, maybe they give out a sweet tone.

  • Whooaa, I can remember Dainty Toffee, I think my dentist can as well, Very nice vintage look Bob ;-)

P.S What about a merry maid toffee tin for the next build.

  • Thank you Doug. Much appreciated.  This is the only one I've built from scratch this year.  I'll try and contribute a bit more to CBN next year.

  • Wow! Wow! Wow! First class LPG Ambrose. You brought your “A Game” to this one!

  • Thanks Rich.  Your Wildfire guitar is a stunner.

  • That's got some great texture.

    Good work.
