I put the pliers right up to the corner of my workbench at the edge

I hope you can see that the end of the pliers are right up against the wooden edge of my bench. I can then tap the long end of the rivit parts and they practically jump right out from the other part with a minimum of taps of my hammer. Those pins may work well for markers on the edge of my fretboard, but I am not sure at this point.

i just grab em with the pliers ,, then slam the shaft down on a spare piece of wood . ;-)
