I'm using a bolt-on neck on my (avatar) mandola, and have had no problems whatever with the string tension.
Of course, the Cohiba box is very strong; solid cedar. Also the top is pretty thick compared to that of a plywood box.
If I were making a mandolin with the typical 1/8" plywood top, I'd use a bit of bracing and perhaps a bridge plate.
