  I used a G string on my diddly and tuned it to G. Like the highest string on 3-stringer tuned G-D-g. I pick out melodies mostly on mine. Old Church Hymns and Folk Tunes ! But that's just me ...

  Agreed. You always see central soundholes on all those cool old CBGs from way back when. Your builds really capture the charm of these antique instruments.

  Go for it William.   Rob, I waited too long on doing this type.  I do believe the sound is best this way and they look so traditional.   Guys, we probably need about 4-5 diddlys in different styles and tunings.  I like the 5th sting from a set tuned A or  G.
