I've spent several vacations in the Delta digging around in the history of the blues. Been to Zero, the Museum, Red's Lounge, etc. One of my most memorable moments was on a Sunday morning in July, outside Tutwiler, I stopped and walked out into a cotton field and tried to imagine the horrors of having to walk those rows with a hoe and chopping weeds in the heat of that day. There's nothing in my almost 71 years that comes even close to what that must have been like. Even worse when couple with the reality that there were no other options. That's where the blues were born, for real!
