Corner protectors made from old coins. Actually, it's probably cheaper to make them out of money than it is to buy them ! They're a bit small but worth a try.

You're right, one's a 200 Italian lire, one's 20 French centimes and I used Belgian 5 francs as well. It's all the old 'shrapnel' from holidays and business in pre-Euroland. Victorian bronze pennies would be nice and big but I don't have any handy. They're dirt cheap on eBay.
