When my kids were in Beavers (younger version of Cub Scouts) the group had made musical instruments and the leader asked me to bring in a guitar and lead a jam session. I didn't think it was very fair to play an expensive guitar with instruments made of Kleenex boxes, elastic bands and bottle caps, so I made this 5-string banjo. Many years later I played it at the "Strange Strings" workshop at the Mariposa Folk Festival.
