Ah OK. I did an acrylic wash on some of my previous builds as I like the wood grain to be visible through. I wouldn't seem to get the acrylic to apply right when I tried it on spruce. Your method clearly works on cedar though!
Cheers Richey. It was a really light coat of high gloss cherry red spray paint but I put about 5 coats of satin finish spray lacquer over the top to replicate the stained effect

yeah I was actually really surprised that it worked, I was paranoid about the paint being too thick, but it was all sweet
