  Uncle John, Just noticed your question about the F-holes. Process is....

  trace the pattern onto the box.
  use small drills to remove material... not too close to lines
  use series of files to remove more material
  the sharp points are cut with a fine scroll saw blade.
  use fine brush and black paint to out line the F-hole and the "sides" of the cuts... gives a very defined looking cut.
