Banjo Build-Off

BANJO BUILD-OFFDownlight 5 string Zither style banjo. With bird head peg head. This 5-string banjo is a Parlor Banjo, it has a 22-inch scale. The pot is from a LED ceiling down light. The neck is/was a guitar neck, now converted to short scale 5 string banjo in the Minstrel banjo style. For the fretless fingerboard I used a North Queensland hardwood called Yellow Walnut. The chrome surround that would normally tension a skin head now holds the thin Rosewood timber head. Ebony nut, Mulga armrest, tailpiece, and bridge. The tension lugs [normally on the outside of a pot] are on the inside to hold down the chrome flange. Since the photos were taken a piezo pickup system has been added as it is a very quiet banjo.Taff
