“Don’t Ya Just Hate It”, when you find a nice ittle Resonant Stainless Steel Steamer Basket, build a lovely Camphor Laurel Neck, coat it with True-Oil for the first time, get to the final stage of adding the Bridge and Strings, to a 2 String, 22inch Short Scale Chugger, and find out you’ve completely “STUFFED UP” the measurements from Nut to Bridge.
The Bowl will probably now become a 3 String Build, and the Neck will become part of a 2 String Wooden Box Chugger.
You’d think after doing over 400 builds, one would be immune to making mistakes like this, but sadly “Not So”, and it now moves into the “Problem Solving Folder”. <;-{

"Thanks Poorness", Pity about the mistake, now in the process of being made into 2 separate gits :-)

I hear you on the woodburning AGP! It depends on how deep the burn goes, as I have learned by experience on my wood burned position markers. Looks like you have more than a few templates ready to go!!! I like printing templates because I don’t have to measure; I only measured the frets for my first CBG and I didn’t have the correct ruler for the job!

I’ll look forward to seeing the baritone transformation!

Wow that's cool!

"Thanks Rope", I always construct my Builds, so that they can be "Deconstructed", in case something goes amiss, as is the case here!  ;-D

"Thanks UJ", already in the process of turning the Stuffup into 2 new Builds, the Bowl is a 27" 3 String Baritone, and the Neck will remain a 22" Shorty with an appropriately sized Recycled Cedar Box.

Lovely gesture and story about the Church Auction, and great to see that you can now add "CBG Teacher" to your ever growing resume. :-)

""Thanks Doug", good idea about sanding out the side markers, BUT !!, they are burnt in with the head of a heated rivet shaft, as are most of my builds these days, I use the Music Makers Fret Calculator, (link below), and make Scale Template Sticks for all the usual Scale Lengths, and also some more unusual ones.

The Bowl already has a new "Cypress Pine" Neck, it's now a 27" 3 String Baritone Build, and will be finished in a few days, after it receives a few coats of True-Oil, and dries properly, just about to go back to the Shed and start building a recycled Cedar Box to suit the lovely 22" Scale Neck, from the Stuffup!

Your Steamer Basket builds are awesome AGP! They just look so cool! You could always sand out the side dots and change the scale length to what is actually is and do new side dots. I print paper templates from a pc program with whatever scale length I need. With a 22” scale length; it sounds like you are too! It seems to me that this guitar can be saved.

You can always part these things out so easily that’s one of the cool things about ‘em. If it don’t work here, make it work there.
(And you’re a good guy no doubt, UncleJohn).

Well it sure is pretty.   Which we know does not mean a lot.   You will get to salvage two from the one. It will be okay.

Our church auctioned off donated items in a youth group fund raiser yesterday.   I had a relic CBG donated and worried a bit it would go cheap.  It went high.  Two folks bid it up too twice what I wanted for it.   Two free lessons are included and I will start the winner next Sunday.

I had a loser build in the shed.  I went out there yesterday and took it from a crappy four to a good playing 3 and will gift it to the loser of the auction..   She really wants to learn to play.   :)
