Volume pot for first CBG?

Hi Everyone, I'm working on my first CBG.  I'm going with a 3 string , no frets.  How important is it to include a volume pot to this CBG ? I'm not an electronics guy so this is all new to me Any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks Vince
