Do I need a truss rod?

Just about to build a guitar neck to add to a brass ukulele body. As I'll have 4 medium/heavy strings, do you think I'll need a truss road? Im using a piece of sapele/mahogany.

Measuring from the nut

Im using a bolt as a nut. wondering if I position my fret scale from half way accross the bolt or to the edge of the neck as I usually do?
