Eye Bolt Tuners

Thinking about building a two-string bass and was wondering if anyone has tried building one with eye bolts as tuners? If so, what size did you use and how were they "placed" on the headstock?

I've built a decent "broom handle" Diddley Bo and now I'd really like to learn how to play it. I know, just like the CBG, there's no "right way" to play it. But if anyone could at least give me a starting point, that would go a long way. :)
