since  i  seem  to  have no problem selling  , ill  chime in  here and  offer  my 2 cents  .

first off  ,  even  if you   are  not   generating any sales  on  ebay  ..  it   is  still   reaching 1000's  of   people  ,,  and that  is   dam  good  advertising  for the fee  price .

that  combined  with a website  and  sites  like   this  ,,  will  all work as  one  .

keeping that in  mind,     not to many    will  buy    on  first sight  ,   in a sea   of  others     just like  it  .

make it  memorable

make is  stand  out .  they will  come  back  to  it  .

there  is something to  be said for  a guitar  that  is   instantly  recognizable from  across the   room  .even   knowing    who  built  it   at    first distant  glance  .

product recognition  =  product familiarity .   = a foot in the door  .

- 5  fruit stands  in  a row  at  the  market ,  all  selling    just      lemons .

one  guy   paints a  happy  face  on all  his  ..  and  has a quirky  name  . = sells  more  .

next week  ..    customers    bring friends    and point out the lemon  guy  .

they will actually be disappointed  if   he's not there  .

  ;-)

ps  .." this  message  brought to   you  by  swamp witch guitars"  :-D

see  .. ? you  know exactly what one looks like  ;-)

First of all thanks for the compliments on the website.  Chris, you are correct.  All my guitars are similar in their basic design.  I do mix them up a little with some subtle differences.  But I never really get burned out "building the same thing".  A guitar build takes about 40 hours of labor and I'm proud of each one I build, so as a hobby it still remains very rewarding.  And you are correct in that folks buy my guitars because they know exactly what they are getting regarding playability and sound.  I've got a couple ideas for something different, I just don't seem to get around to building them.  Maybe some day:)

To Muddy Creek:  Folks end up at my website in many ways.  First of all my friend (and mentor) John McNair (reddog guitars) refers a lot of people to me.  Second, a lot of my customers have been kind enough to post Youtube videos playing my guitars and giving me a "plug".  I also get a lot of repeat business, customer referrals, and folks also find me through Google.  I could generate more traffic through other social media and such, but its difficult for me to keep up with the orders I get now, so I've really never had a need to do that.  As I said, this is a hobby for me.  One thing a website has done for me is connect me with the rest of the world.  Probably 30 to 40 percent of my guitars are sold to customers outside the US.

And lastly to Scott:  I'm not saying Ebay is a bad thing.  If it works well for you, go for it.  But, having a decent website will even help your sells there as well.  It just helps with "credibility" when a potential customer can see that you're a "real business" with a real website.  Just like tons of other sellers.  Plus it allows you to direct them to more photos or videos of your product.

Wow, this got pretty long.

Well I'm glad EBay is working for some people ... I call it the "Meat Grinder" of CBG's. I can build something really special and they don't even fetch my reserve price! Yet I can walk into a guitar shop and look at something made in China for no less than $250???? What are we doing wrong here guys?

I build from Oct-May, and make & sell 10-12 guitars during that time...in addition to ones that I give as gifts, etc.

@Scott
About how many guitars a month do you sell on eBay?
Comment by Scott aka Farmer Ted on January 11, 2014 at 3:55pm

Ebay works well for me. Rather list there and reach 330 million potential viewers for a few pct. points off sale price for Ebay services, than to spend valuable time managing a website that gets very limited views without more time spent promoting/networking, etc. Less time on computer means more time in workshop, and w/ family
