I've been playing a 3 string for three plus years now. Looking to add that elusive and mesmerizing fourth string. Anything to look for in a 4 string CBG. I'm a player, not a builder. Advice good,…Continue

I found I moved to four strings from three quite quickly, I use three strings for one or two songs but found four strings suited my playing style better, though the four string leans more towards…Continue

More simple than it sounds, it really just involves adding an extra tuner, adding a new string anchor in the tail and adjusting the nut and bridge slots... Rum Punch conversionRum Punch started life…Continue

Hello all, I picked up a neck from a 6 string solid body. Any ideas or pictures of the best way to install it into a cigar box? I never used a pre made neck in any of my builds. Any help will be…Continue

Thanks for Starting this Forum Slowpaw. I have done a couple of 3 stringers, but when I built my 4 string, I fell in love with it. Tune my to open G (four center strings on the six string). Used some of Keni Lee Burgess videos. They are a good source of instruction (if I only had all the time I liked to play!) Keep up the good work.
Joe
I am practicing Steve. It's cool and thanks.
Is it huh -zuh or hoo- zuh? I have been alternating.
Thanks guys! special thankyou Keni for including some tasters from your DVD, looking forward to trying out those tunings (and some chords) though i have a few more new songs in my bGDG tuning to get down first!.
@ Uncle John - the special "handshake" is to just use 4 fingers when shaking, shout "huzzah four" four times while turnng round on the spot four times...will take a little practice - who thought this 4 string thang would be easy..? (-:
@ Alan, looking forward to hearing your new baby!
Hi Steve, great idea for a new group, especially as I'm just coming to the end of building my 1st 4 stringer. Excellent timing! Not Exactly sure on tunings yet, but thinking more towards the open D (D, F#,A, D) Look forward to the discussions.
Alan.
Thanks for the invite, Steve. Is there a secret hand shake? I have been disappointed in some groups that decline to teach it to me.
I love my 3 strings- so easy. I have a reso 4 string tuned DGBD. After listening to you and Jon Grinder, I plan to try a GDGB tuned guitar soon. I have a 3 stringer to convert.
A simple opinion: I believe learning 3 string tuned GDg is a little easier for a beginner than a 4 string tuned Dgbd. I base this on that learning Open D on a 6 string is easier than learning open G first. The 151 (GDg) interval on a 3 string CBG is very similar to the 151351 (DADf#ad) tuning of a Open D six string. For one thing, they both have a 51 interval on the top two strings. Regardless, there are many roads that lead to the same destination. Enjoy your practice, Keni Lee
BTW: Tuning a 4 string CBG to GDgd has the 3 string CBG tuning GDg plus the 5 tone. An alternate approach can be GDgb which can be found here D"GDgb"d in the full 6 string Open G tuning. Again, the GDg 3 string tuning plus the 3 tone.
