Got it together and playing. Sounds good. Not fretted yet.
I did the neck joint this afternoon. I changed my mind on how to build it. It came out ok. The alignment appears to be right on. I cut the arc with the band saw. Nice to have a band saw even if it is a cheap Ryobe (I'm not complaining. I use it all the time.) You may recognize Ikea-type hardware.
I was away from building for a few months, but now I have some time to put out a few ukes.
The Cohiba side slide top uke is my 21st uke. I am mostly using the Chinese necks now due to the very low cost and the quality is quite adequate. Still using the Ikea connector for neck attachment. It is a little bit plain, but it plays well and sounds very good.
On the left is the beginning of a banjo uke. I got lucky and found a wooden bowl at a thrift shop. A rare one with straight, vertical sides. It was also deep enough to make 2 bodies. I cut the bowl in half on a lumber mill. The plan is to use a PET plastic top stapled to the sides and then shrunk with a heat gun. It should be awesome. The neck joint will be a bitch, but I think I have figured out a jig to curve the end of the neck to match the curvature of the body.
So the video embed code is not working in the group's comment, but if you are inclined, the link in my last comment has a 30-second video of a base coat on a curly maple uke neck/head. My apologies if you received multiple notices as I tried to get the embed code to work.
