not too bad,. I use a 23 guage wound string, tuned to G. A simple instrument but people at work like  them

Sweet, Battmann!

Simple & elegant--but lotsa work on the guitar shapes. I've gotta try that as soon as I get my bandsaw set up again.

I like the idea of moving the 6th fret up to give you a simple major scale.

More about the 6.5th fret:

I left it off my canjo that I keep to practice on. I tune to D and play in G and there's no problem. The only times I play in D, I play so-called major pentatonic tunes that don't use that note anyway, so it doesn't matter.

It's only the folks who tune to a note (like D) and then want to play a full major scale in that key. Best advice: make the 3rd fret your keynote (or tonic) and you'll be okay.

I'm used to calling it 6.5 in dulcimer tabs. I believe that the high-end music notation programs (Finale and Sibelius) generate a 6.5 (but I'm too lazy to go verify that right now.)

Ben Baker (CB Gitty) has been calling it 7 on all his tabs for the American Canjo Company, and I've got to admit that makes it simpler than trying to explain how 6.5 and 7 are alternate frets depending on which key you're in and watching people's eyes glaze over.

I guess as a tie-breaker we need to ask the people who make multi-string guitars as "strummers" with diatonic tuning. Do you guys put a fret between 6 and 7? If so, what do you call it? Surely I can get some sort of argument discussion going on this.

TN Twang.

I left the #6.5 fret out, as it was for a friends little girl and I thought it would be easier for her.

Speaking as someone with no musical knowledge, the 6.5 fret(blue note) seams to allow more flexibility, allowing you to play different scales and more blues options, at least that was my understanding.

The numbering is confusing I thought it was known as 6 1/2 fret, most tabs I have come across  are numbered that way, but recently have came across it referred to as number 7, so I am confused. The question is, is there a standard?

Have a look at the link below:

Thing of great beauty. I'm gonna' steal your bridge design. Don't know why I didn't think of it myself. (Duh!)

I notice you didn't put in a so-called "6 1/2-th fret" .

I haven't been putting one on my builds for canjos, but dulcimer players are starting to expect them to be there. I'd love to provoke a discussion on this website about why the extra fret should or should not be there on diatonic fretboards and whether it should be numbered "fret #7" or "fret #6.5" in tablature.
