I just ordered a book from amazon. It's Easy To Build Your Own Lap Steel Guitar by Martin Koch. It was recommended by a British Lap maker.

There is a lot of good information and plans at:

http://www.bluestemstrings.com

Not cigar box based, but they could be adapted

Ok, a friend I just met likes playing lap steel, but he has never been introduced to the world of CBG or Handmade Guitars. I want to build him a hum dinger right out of the shute. Heard of a lap steel being built on an old ironing board - would that be the right height? Can someone email me plans on my CBN page? Not just plans but string info freting info bridge and nut info and resonance since I want it to ring acustically though I plan to electrify it. Oh and anything else you can think of I may need for a really super build!

David,

I have been making a 6 string CBG out of Jarrah.  It is extremely hard to work but it looks a million bucks when it is polished up and coated.  I am making it out of a piece of 100x38mm cross section jarrah.  Some photos of the project are on the Cigar box australia website on my page

http://cigarboxguitarsaustralia.ning.com/profile/LenDavidson

The build does have a cigar box to  give it some degree of acoustic sound but I am going to amplify it.  I am still not sure if I am going to use a coil pickup or a piezo transducer.

Len
