well imade my 1st cbg, out of a biscuit tin and a manky old mahogany shelf. looks a bit rough, doesnt stay in tune for long, but its great fun!

Piezos....can't remember the exact frequency rating (looked in my parts box but I've discarded all the packaging from my stock), but I go for the lowest Hz rating that I can get, as piezos are inevitably pretty 'toppy', especially if you aren't using a preamp.

well i put a strat pup in the biscuit tin, i think ive wired it wrong though, getting no sound, and soldering iron out of gas!
will have to wait now, away till wednesday.

Using piezos can be a real problem in terms of the sound. With my own piezo equipped Cigar Box Guitars I always put them thru' an amp rather than the PA to give me more control...but I'm careful about selecting which piezos to use - you can buy them rated in terms of the frequency band they are designed to deal with, and some work better than others.

Having said that, a magnetic pickup automatically gives you a much more controllable sound, both in terms of what you can do with it on the desk or amp, and by putting tone and volume controls on the guitar....with the last guitar I built even my wife remarked how nice it sounded.
