I would like to buy one to see if I like them?
but at the same time don't want to spend a small fortune on one either maybe later once I learn how to play one.
at the moment I don't have the space to make my own due to having half of my garage into a workshop.
I make grab rails and carriers for classic bikes so obviously the workshop is grubby and not suitable to do any woodwork.
the other of is where I keep my motorbike and house hold stuff as well as storage for my chromed products.

well we've all got to start some where haven't we ?
obviously I've got a canny bit to learn but hopefully have fun in doing so.
that's what it is all about having fun and at 63 I've still got plenty of time god willing.
I've already had one little battle with cancer and so far good minus one kidney.
I'm sure this will be fun on these cbg's.
I did play a couple of simple tunes on my bass but I didn't want to go through all the theory stuff.
even on my 3 string guitar I could play the 1st few chords? of the shads apache also smoke on the water on my bass to.
but once I had to stretch ma fingers!! oh oh need to work on this but old theory came into this so I gave up having lesson's.
and that was 5 years ago.
hopefully with cbg I can make my own as there is no rules as I understand it.
we'll see how things pan out. john
hope your guitar will get to you today, John! (-:
yep got it today and very pleased with it.
my its little!! my son like it to and he thinks its great.
he like the 2 stringed bass guitar to.
I'll have a go at making them to.
the other cbg will be fretless.
but it is nice to have at least one fretted.
and yes I will use ma fingers all two of them
gone and bought this one but with frets,so we'll see how things go.

it will be great - personally i dont care for frets and a low action on a cigar box guitar. If you want to play the frets, may as well be using an electric guitar.
Playing with just the slide is only restrictive if you secretly yearn to play it with your fingers! Treat the cigar box as a totally different instrument - a slide guitar - and learn to play it - you'll be amazed how quickly you pick it up and free yourself from the need to play with fingers on the fretboard
playing slide on a fretted guitar is a compromise, fretless is easier as it usually has the string action set higher and you can really dig in but have to be more careful on a fretted fingerboard as the action is lower and could catch the frets with the slide. :-)
In my opinion this is like saying 'if you never take the training wheels off your bike, you'll never need to learn to ride it'.
Ry Cooder doesn't rip his frets out, neither did Muddy. I think if you work on your technique maybe you could have your cake and eat it too :)
yep i enjoy my cake, i really had beginners in mind, obviously when you've had a lot of practice things will come easier :-)
It's a personal choice, but I believe that slide guitar technique is misunderstood by many people. I like to use a combination of slide, bass figures, chords and fingered partial chords - maybe that's not for everyone, but it's the technique I've developed. I thought I knew how to play slide guitar until I started being taught by some seriously good players...and that changed everything for me. I'm not old enough to have played with any of the old-time blues greats, but certainly my mentors have, so it's really cool to have a connection in this way, and certainly puts things in perspective. I was certainly knocked off my perch when I first when to a slide guitar workshop and had to totally re-appraise my whole approach to playing...there's always something new to learn.
